Lawrence Berkeley National Lab’s (LBNL ) Molecular Foundry Division is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Nanoscale Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy Postdoc to join our team in the Center for Catalysis in Biomimetic Confinement. As a member of our prestigious research group, you will be involved in a groundbreaking project focused on the development of a nanoscale high frequency Scanning Electrochemical Microscope. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of nanoscale resolution techniques, specifically targeting ion and electron transport through the pores of Bacterial Microcompartment (BMC) shell protein films.

What You Will Do:
Build and optimize a high frequency Scanning Electrochemical Microscope capable of achieving 10 nanometer resolution.
Conduct comprehensive characterization of the physical properties of BMC shell proteins, including morphology, mechanics, and electrochemical behavior.
Design experiments, troubleshoot technical issues, and interpret experimental data to advance understanding BMC design and function.
Collaborate closely with members of the center to address characterization requirements within the research program.
Prepare and present scientific findings in refereed journals, conferences, and seminars.
Actively participate in the dissemination of research results within the scientific community.
What is Required:
Ph.D. in Physics, Biophysics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
Demonstrated expertise and hands-on experience in Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy and its variants.
Proficiency in utilizing low-noise electronics for sensing applications.
Possess an imaginative yet rigorous approach to research, with a proven ability to think creatively and solve complex problems.
Strong analytical skills, enabling comprehensive data analysis and interpretation.
Excellent interdisciplinary communication skills, supported by a robust publication record, conference presentations, and collaboration experience.
Ability to work independently, while also thriving in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with imaging and characterization tools.
Experience characterizing the mechanical properties of materials.
Experience fabricating sensors using lithographic techniques.

Notes:
This is a full-time 2 year postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of renewal based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds and ongoing operational needs. You must have less than 3 years of paid postdoctoral experience. Salary for Postdoctoral positions depends on years of experience post-degree.
This position is represented by a union for collective bargaining purposes.
The monthly salary range for this position is $5,000.00 - 5,996.00. Postdoctoral positions are paid on a step schedule per union contract and salaries will be predetermined based on postdoctoral step rates. Each step represents one full year of completed post-Ph.D. postdoctoral and/or related research experience.
